Does a baby born at 37 weeks need to stay in an incubator?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Should a baby born at 37 weeks needs to be kept in the incubator? My sister was told that she might have to deliver the baby at 37 weeks since she has preeclampsia. What precautions should be taken to take care of those babies? We are afraid about it because we have never handled those babies. We want to give proper care to the babies. What to do?

Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I went through your query and understood your concern.

No need to stress too much. Babies born at 37 weeks might need extra attention initially but often do well without an incubator. Keep things calm, feed them well, and keep them warm. The doctors will guide your sister's family through this.

I hope it helps.

Thank you.
