Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am getting severe colds often with either sneezing or coughing. Whenever I cough, I get a dirty, white-colored smelly substance that is solid in state coming out of my throat. At that time, my throat had a little burning sensation.
What could this be?
Can this be due to pneumonia?
I also hear a weird sound when I breathe. I am not diabetic or hypertensive. I am in my late 30s.
Kindly help.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your query and can understand your concern.
As per your history, you seem to be suffering from allergic rhinitis. It is a form of allergy that involves the nose and throat. If it is associated with shortness of breath, then there might be involvement of chest and bronchial asthma may be one of the reasons. And if this is the scenario, then a pulmonologist consultation shall be taken.
Investigations required in such patients:
1. Complete blood count with absolute eosinophil count.
2. Chest X-ray.
3. X-ray of paranasal sinuses
5. Pulmonary function test.
Its treatment includes:
1. Steam inhalation twice daily for 10 days.
2. Warm saline gargles twice daily for 10 days.
3. Nasal spray Fluticasone (corticosteroid) one spray on each nose twice daily for one month.
Kindly consult a physician, discuss with them, and start taking the medications with their consent.
I hope I have answered your question.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards.
