Are Levocetirizine and Montelukast good for allergic cold?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have been dealing with an allergic cold for the past year and am currently taking a combination tablet of Levocetirizine and Montelukast for it. Can you confirm if this medication is suitable, and do you have any recommendations for a more appropriate treatment?

Please suggest.

Thank you in advance.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

Allergic rhinitis can be quite troublesome. While the tablet Levocetirizine and Montelukast can help alleviate symptoms, it is not a definitive treatment and may not be as effective as Mometasone nasal spray. I suggest you try Mometasone nasal spray to see if it provides better relief. Consult your doctor before starting this medication.

I also suggest immunotherapy, but before starting, a skin prick test and allergen-specific IgE (immunoglobulin E) measurement in serum are necessary to identify prominent allergens and determine the appropriate treatment. Additionally, avoiding allergens is crucial in preventing allergic episodes.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to ask if you have any further questions.

Thank you.
