Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I’m writing about my friend’s father, who is 68 and was recently diagnosed with early-stage prostate cancer. The family is overwhelmed by the treatment choices and unsure how each might affect their lifestyle.
He’s active, likes hiking and traveling, so they’re especially concerned about how treatment might impact his energy and daily routine. So my questions are-
Please help.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern. For early-stage prostate cancer, treatment typically involves either radical prostatectomy (surgical removal of the prostate) or localized radiotherapy.
In some cases, hormone therapy may be recommended, especially if the patient isn’t a good candidate for surgery or radiation.
The best treatment option depends on several factors, including the stage of the cancer and the biopsy results (particularly the Gleason score).
Hormone therapy generally has fewer side effects and may be easier on the body, especially for older or less active patients.
I hope this helps.
Please feel free to reach out with any more questions.
Thank you.
