Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
I am a 35-year-old personal trainer, and my psoriasis has spiraled out of control since I started competing in CrossFit. It began with patches on my elbows, but now it covers my entire back and chest (like someone threw hot coffee on me). My gym clients are starting to ask questions, and some have even canceled their sessions.
The scalp psoriasis is the worst with chunks of hair falling out when I sweat during workouts. I have been using topical steroids (Triamcinolone), but my skin seems addicted. If I skip even one day, it flares up angrily.
I have noticed that my protein shakes and pre-workout supplements seem to trigger flares, but I cannot cut them out with the competition season approaching. On top of that, my right knee and ankle have become stiff and swollen after workouts.
My recent blood work showed high inflammation markers (ESR 45) and extremely low vitamin D (14). My competition is in six weeks, and I need serious help managing this without quitting training. What should I do?
Please help me.
Thanks.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I can understand your concern.
First and foremost, stop whey protein as it increases inflammation in the body. Use plant-based proteins as far as possible. Mix and apply- Clobetasol plus Salicylic acid cream and intense moisturizing cream twice daily. Use a Salicylic acid shampoo for the scalp. Turmeric or curcumin is an excellent anti-inflammatory, which can be taken directly or in milk daily. Expose to sunlight for 10 minutes daily and take a capsule of Vitamin D 60,000 units once a week for 12 weeks.
Reply to me if you have more concerns or questions.
I hope this information helps you.
Thank you.
