Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am 44 years old and manage a beauty salon, and my psoriasis is ruining everything. My scalp is shedding so much that clients worry about flakes dropping when I am doing their hair. I have big red areas on my face that cosmetics cannot conceal - not even my costly airbrush system. When I undertake hair color treatments, my hands break and bleed; the chemicals burn like fire. I have been using Taltz for six months, but my insurance company recently denied my renewal due to high liver tests. I saw strange yellow patches on my nails, and clients kept asking whether they were fungal. My wrists and fingers pain so much that I can hardly handle scissors and have dropped my blowdryer twice this week. My 15-year regulars are starting to go elsewhere. This business is my entire existence; what treatment will not react with salon chemicals?
Kindly help.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your query and can understand your concern.
Psoriasis with such complaints needs to be addressed at the earliest. Try to prevent drying which will help reduce the cracks and further bleeds.
Advice:
Topical treatments for cracks and bleeds include corticosteroid creams, vitamin D substitutes, ultraviolet (UVB) therapy, and oral drugs such as Methotrexate and Cyclosporine.
Apply thick lotions and soothing chemicals to the hands while wearing latex gloves during work.
Wrist and finger pain could be caused by psoriatic arthritis, which requires additional evaluation and therapy.
Yellow nails could indicate psoriasis or fungal diseases. Check for and treat fungal infections.
Chemicals harm the skin; thus, reducing contact with gloves is the best option.
Liver function tests are abnormal. As a result, whatever oral medications you start next, liver tests should be examined frequently.
Please consult your dermatologist using the information provided above and request alternatives. Well-managed psoriasis will have no negative impact on your business or clients. As a result, keeping it under control is the priority.
Take care.
