Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
My 7-year-old son was diagnosed with psoriasis a year ago. His condition mainly affects his scalp and elbows, and we have been managing it with prescribed creams. However, he seems to catch colds and other infections much more often than before, and his recovery takes longer. I have read that psoriasis is linked to immune system issues. Does this mean his immunity is compromised, and should we consider additional supplements or vaccinations? Please help.
Thank you.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I can understand your concern.
Well, I am deeply concerned about your worries. Well, the patient is having issues in the immune system, and the medications are used; they affect the immunity by suppressing it. So, he should take a balanced diet along with strict hygienic measures and get additional vaccines like flu vaccines yearly if the patient is not improving with topical medicines. There are other oral medicines like steroids, and after that, if there is no improvement, we can go for biological medicines like Methotrexate.
I hope this information will help you.
Thank you.
