Is it common for blister packs to lack dosage labeling?
Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I take Quetiapine 150 mg. The box clearly states 150 mg; however, the silver packaging inside does not clearly indicate the dosage. Is it safe to assume that the tablets contain the correct dosage, or could there be a mix-up?
Additionally, while I understand that the medication description is provided on the box, the tablets inside are packaged in individual strips that do not clearly display the name or dosage. How can I verify that I have the correct medication?
Kindly help.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I can understand your concern.
It is understandable to be concerned when the dosage is not clearly labeled on the individual strips inside the box. Generally, if the outer packaging states that the medication is 150 mg, it is safe to assume that the tablets inside match this dosage. However, if there is any doubt, it is always best to double-check.
Here is what you can do to ensure you are taking the correct dosage:
-
Consult your pharmacist – If you are unsure, bring the box to your pharmacy and ask them to confirm that the medication inside corresponds to the 150 mg dosage. They can verify this for you.
-
Check the tablet’s appearance – The color, shape, or imprint on the tablet can often help identify the dosage. You can cross-check this with the medication guide or consult your pharmacist.
-
Understand packaging practices – In some cases, internal strip packaging may not display detailed labeling due to design constraints, but the outer box should provide all necessary information. If you're uncertain, verifying directly with a pharmacist is always a good idea.
If you ever have concerns about your medication, do not hesitate to ask your healthcare provider or pharmacist for confirmation. They can help ensure you take the correct dosage and avoid any potential mix-ups.
I hope this information helps you.
