Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am a 35-year-old mother of two, and I have been smoking for over a decade. I want to quit, not just for myself but for my daughters. They are entering puberty, and I do not want them to think smoking is normal or safe. I have tried to quit multiple times, but it is hard. Are there programs especially for women? I have also read that smoking affects bone health, fertility, and even menopause. I am worried about what damage I have already done to my body. I want to take control now. Are there women-focused anti-smoking programs or therapies? Can quitting smoking improve menstrual regularity or hormonal balance?
Please help.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I can understand your concern.
Yes, there are women-focused anti-smoking programs that address hormonal changes, stress, and emotional triggers unique to women:
Quit for life (American Cancer Society and Optum) – Offers tailored support for women.
Become an EX – Includes community support and resources specific to moms.
Smokefree Women (by smokefree.gov) – Free, evidence-based tools, support texts, and quit plans designed for women.
Quitting smoking can help:
Improve menstrual regularity.
Rebalance hormones like estrogen.
Delay early menopause.
Support bone health and future fertility.
You have not missed your chance. Quitting now reverses much of the damage and protects your daughters from secondhand smoke and bad role modeling. You are making a powerful choice.
I hope this helps.
Kindly follow up if you have more concerns.
Thank you.
