Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
A bug entered my ear six months ago. Since then, my hair has been falling out and has an elastic feel. I have a bubble-like spot on my forehead, my ears are bothering me, and my vision is sometimes blurry.
I experience muscle weakness and bubbling sensations under my left breast, in the private area, and in my legs. I also have headaches, nausea when outside, a stinging sensation, and a feeling of pressure in my head like there is no way for the air to escape. When I brush my hair, substances come out with it.
Please help.
Thank you.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I have gone through your query and understand your concern.
I understand you are dealing with a wide range of troubling symptoms that seem to have started after an insect entered your ear six months ago. This situation sounds very distressing, and while the symptoms may seem connected, we need to consider both local and systemic causes. Evaluating each symptom properly and ruling out anything serious while ensuring you get the right help moving forward is essential.
Some of your symptoms, such as the bubbling sensation, headaches, blurred vision, and generalized weakness, suggest that there might be a neurological or systemic inflammatory process involved. Hair changes, a bubble spot on the forehead, ear discomfort, and high blood pressure readings hint toward possible chronic infection, allergic reaction, or post-inflammatory effects. It is unlikely that a retained insect is still present, but any leftover inflammation or reaction from that incident could contribute to ongoing symptoms. Anxiety or stress-related conditions can also sometimes amplify physical symptoms over time.
To get clarity and safely proceed, I strongly recommend the following tests:
An ENT (ear, nose, and throat) examination with otoscopy to rule out residual ear damage or infection.
A complete blood count (CBC) to check for infection or inflammation.
Liver and kidney function tests.
A thyroid profile, including TSH (thyroid-stimulating hormone), T3, and T4 (these two primary hormones are produced by the thyroid gland and play a role in regulating metabolism and overall body functions), as hair loss and fatigue, could be thyroid-related.
Vitamin B12 and D levels.
Brain MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) is recommended if neurological symptoms persist or worsen.
A dermatology consult for hair and scalp issues, including the bubble lesion.
A urinalysis is needed because of bubbling sensations and genital-area symptoms.
If systemic illness is suspected, autoimmune screening, including ANA (antinuclear antibody), ESR (erythrocyte sedimentation rate), and CRP (C-reactive protein), is needed.
The most likely diagnosis at this stage is a post-inflammatory syndrome with possible scalp and ear involvement.
As a general approach until test results are available.
Avoid scratching the scalp or using harsh hair products.
Use a mild medicated shampoo with antifungal or antibacterial properties.
Keep the ear dry and avoid inserting anything inside.
If the fever persists, use Paracetamol for the short term.
Increase hydration, take rest, and avoid sun exposure if it worsens symptoms.
Consider temporarily taking a B-complex vitamin and zinc supplement if you are not allergic.
Once investigations are done, targeted treatment can be initiated based on the findings.
If you experience any worsening of symptoms, you should follow the preventive measures:
Protect the ears with cotton while showering or outdoors to avoid moisture or irritants.
Maintain proper scalp hygiene, but avoid overwashing.
Manage stress with relaxation techniques, as anxiety may worsen the perception of symptoms.
If allergic symptoms are suspected, limit exposure to perfumes, hair dyes, or environmental irritants.
Please upload any recent lab tests or imaging if available. Also, let me know if you experience worsening fever, facial or ear swelling, severe headaches, or balance issues. A referral to ENT, neurology, or dermatology may be needed based on how symptoms evolve. Kindly follow up after the tests or if new symptoms arise.
I hope I have answered your question.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
Thank you.
