Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have had Impetigo four times in the last four months and have been using both oral and topical antibiotics to manage the condition. However, this new blemish on my lip, present since a week, is not improving with antibiotics and has not spread to other parts of my face. I am using proactive acne medication daily on my face. I would like to determine whether this is Impetigo or acne. I am seeking advice on a treatment plan or any recommendations you might have. Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

This lip lesion is a pustule, a collection of pus in simpler terms, indicating a bacterial infection. If your current antibiotics are not working, it suggests antibiotic resistance, requiring a change in topical and oral antibiotics. Additionally, consider draining the pus by puncturing the pustule.

For recurring cases, I suggest the following:

  1. Use Mupirocin cream twice daily for two days each month on your nostrils, armpits, navel, and peri-anal area.

  2. Avoid touching your face or nose.

  3. Practice frequent handwashing.

I hope this helps.

Please revert in case of further queries.

Thank you.
