Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
My son is 11 years old. He complained of chest pain, shortness of breath, and dizziness. The test results show possible right ventricular hypertrophy.
Please help.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
This issue needs to be addressed on a priority basis. Based on the information provided, your son experienced shortness of breath with chest pain about a week ago while playing, and later had similar symptoms even without much activity. This definitely points toward the possibility of a heart problem, or it could be related to the lungs.
Has he ever had any breathing problems, like asthma or allergies, before?
Is there any history of similar problems in the family?
Is he on any medication?
Does he have any swelling in his feet or on his face?
Regarding the ECG(electrocardiogram), it is not very convincing for right ventricular hypertrophy, but for his age, his QTc(heart-rate-corrected QT interval) is on the higher side. Since he is having symptoms, this needs to be reconfirmed.
As the symptoms are recurring, I suggest you consult an experienced pediatric cardiologist as early as possible for a complete check-up and also get an echocardiogram (ECHO) done. A chest X-ray should also be done. These evaluations will help provide a clear direction for further management.
I hope this helps.
Kindly follow up if you have more concerns.
Thank you.
