Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
I started treatment for ringworm on the back of my neck near my scalp 12 days ago. My doctor prescribed Fluconazole (oral) 300 mg once a week for six weeks. While the condition has improved, I have noticed two new smaller spots, one on the back of my head, likely due to shaving too soon. Can I still spread the infection to myself? When is it safe to shave my head and face without risking further spread? Also, will 300 mg of Fluconazole once a week for six weeks be enough to completely eliminate Tinea corporis?
Please help me.
Thanks.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I can understand your concern.
Yes, you can still spread the infection to yourself after 12 days of treatment, as completing the full four to six-week course is necessary. Since you have taken two doses of 300 mg so far, you should continue the treatment as prescribed. It is best to wait until after the full six-week course before shaving your head or face to prevent further spread. Fluconazole 300 mg once a week for six weeks should effectively treat Tinea corporis (borderline tinea capitis), though results may vary.

I hope this information helps you.
Thank you.
