I have recurrent ringworm infection. What medications help me?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am suffering from ringworm. I have gone to a dermatologist, but it did not work.

The time period is from the first of the last month until now. But when I started going to the dermatologist, the infection stopped, and it started again. I had this last year, but it was not severe.

Currently, I am taking Desloratadine and Azomax (Azithromycin).

Please suggest some good medicine.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

Thank you for reaching out. Based on your description, fungal infections are recurrent due to multiple reasons, such as:

  1. Not using proper anti-fungal medication.

  2. May need to switch to oral and topical both.

  3. People stop it suddenly once the infection is clear.

  4. If someone is using steroids with anti-fungal as Spectrazole (Econazole nitrate), Cetrazole (Alprazolam), Betnovate, or Dermovate (Clobetasol).

  5. Someone at home is having it, and it is again transferred.

At the moment, you are using an antibiotic and not an antifungal. I would suggest you send me a clear picture, if possible, of the affected area, as to why a dermatologist would prescribe an antibiotic for it.

Meanwhile, if you feel it is a proper fungal infection, you can start the following medicine, Bifomyk (Bifonazole) cream, apply day and night at the affected area for at least two to three weeks, and continue for an additional two weeks.

Once it is settled, take the following medicines:

  1. Capsule Icon (Itraconazole) 100 mg one tablet daily, morning and night, for two weeks.

  2. Tablet Softin F (Fexofenadine) 120 mg at bedtime for itching.

I hope it helped with the query.

Feel free to reach out to me anytime. I am here to help you.

Thank you.
