Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I have noticed red spots on my skin, resembling ringworm, appearing all over my body. Currently, I am taking Metformin and using Canesten. Can you please suggest what I should do next?
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I hope you are doing well. I have reviewed the information and images you provided (attachments removed to protect the patient’s identity), and I understand your concern. The red spots on your skin resemble ringworm, which is a fungal infection. There are two main causes of tinea corporis (ringworm on the body), transmission from an infected person through sharing belongings and the presence of sweat and moisture due to climate. Tinea corporis can be treated, but it may take about three to four months to completely clear. Consistency in using the prescribed medications is important. I suggest the following:
Take a capsule Itraconazole 200 mg after dinner every day for three weeks.
Apply Terbinafine cream (Terbinafine Hydrochloride) on the affected areas twice daily for three to four months or until the rashes completely disappear.
Use Clotrimazole dusting powder every three hours on the affected areas to absorb excess moisture and sweat.
Take a capsule of vitamin D3 60 k IU once a week after breakfast for six weeks (every Thursday).
Use Ketoconazole soap for bathing. Apply the soap on the affected areas after lathering with water, leave it on for three minutes, and then wash it off. Do not use this soap on unaffected areas.
Avoid allowing moisture and sweat to stagnate. Towel dry your body well after bathing and dry yourself under a fan for ten minutes.
I hope this information is helpful. Take care of yourself, and stay happy, healthy, and safe.
Regards.
