Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My tooth has been filled and I went to the dentist and he took an x-ray and the filling was to close to to my nerve. He said he will have to do a root canal which I do not want to do. I was thinking of other ways to go around this because my nerve has nothing wrong in it. I do not think I should get one if my nerve is not infected. I was thinking he could just remove the filling and and replace it with a new one which makes sense. Anyway if we do a root canal he is going to drill in the filling anyway. So let me know if a root canal is the only option because I do not feel like going through that.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

It all depends on your symptoms. Why did you visit the dentist if the filling was already done? Are you experiencing any pain or discomfort in it? If yes, then unfortunately, there is no option left but root canal treatment for it, because it might have touched the roots almost.

Secondly, after the removal of filling, re-filling at the same point will not be possible because if the pulp of root is near as it cannot bear any sort of filling directly on top of it. If it is done in this way it will simply cause huge swelling or throbbing pain will start so the only way to save a tooth is to clean the pulp i.e. nerves of root canal through this treatment and then put a cap on it. You may delay this treatment until you experience any symptoms of a root canal. Can you tell me about your symptoms and provide me with a radiograph? So I can tell you exactly what you can do best.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
