Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am 28 years old and 28 weeks pregnant, and my rosacea has worsened during pregnancy. My face feels like it is sunburned and flushes every five minutes. My obstetrician says most creams are not safe right now. What can I use? I am also getting pimple-like bumps that bleed easily, and my nose looks bigger will it stay this way? My eyes are so irritated that I cannot wear contacts. Are eye drops safe to use during pregnancy? Will this affect my baby?
Kindly suggest.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I can understand your concern.
Pregnancy can worsen rosacea due to hormonal fluctuations, heightened blood flow, and increased skin sensitivity. These changes can lead to more flushing, breakouts, and nasal puffiness. The good news is that this is usually temporary, and rosacea tends to improve after delivery when hormones stabilize. However, triggers should still be managed post-pregnancy to prevent flare-ups.
For safe skincare during pregnancy, a gentle routine is key. Use a non-foaming, unscented cleanser and apply a pregnancy-safe moisturizer. Always wear mineral sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher. To reduce redness and inflammation, cold packs, colloidal oatmeal lotions, and Niacinamide serums can be helpful. Avoid chemical treatments and options for products that are soothing and safe for pregnancy.
I hope this helps.
Thank you.
