How to achieve clear skin while dealing with seborrheic dermatitis?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have seborrheic dermatitis underneath my nose with serious redness and flakiness, and I need advice to cure it. While there has been some improvement, progress has been slow despite applying rice water. I had severe anorexia two years ago. What products should I use for my skincare? Currently, I use an anti-acne washing gel, hyaluronic serum, an anti-allergic cream with almond oil, and sunscreen with SPF 50. Is this regimen okay? Can the serum Hyaluronic acid with vitamin B5 and niacinamide help me address this skin issue? How can I achieve clear skin? Kindly suggest.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understood your concern.

Based on the information you provided, you may have seborrheic dermatitis, a common skin condition that can cause redness, flakiness, and itching in the affected areas. While your current skincare routine includes some effective ingredients for managing acne and sun protection, it may not be specifically targeted toward treating seborrheic dermatitis. To help manage seborrheic dermatitis, I suggest you consider adding a few key products to your skincare routine:

  1. Anti-inflammatory and anti-fungal treatments: Look for products that contain ingredients such as Ketoconazole, Zinc pyrithione, or Salicylic acid, which can help to reduce inflammation and fight off the fungus that can contribute to seborrheic dermatitis.
  2. Moisturizers with soothing ingredients: Since seborrheic dermatitis can be associated with dryness and irritation, it is important to use moisturizers that are gentle and soothing on the skin. Look for products that contain ingredients such as ceramides, niacinamide, or allantoin to help restore the skin's barrier function and reduce inflammation.
  3. Sunscreen: As always, it is important to protect your skin from sun damage by using a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF (sun protection factor) of 30 or higher. Look for products that are gentle and non-irritating on the skin, as some sunscreens can cause irritation or breakouts in people with sensitive skin.

Regarding your question about Hyaluronic acid serum with vitamin B5 and niacinamide, while these ingredients can be beneficial for hydrating and soothing the skin, they are not specifically targeted towards managing seborrheic dermatitis. It is best to focus on using products that contain anti-inflammatory and anti-fungal treatments, as well as moisturizers with soothing ingredients, as these will be more effective at managing your symptoms.

I hope this has helped you. Kindly follow up if you have more doubts.

Thank you.
