Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have dandruff with ringworm or fungal infection on my scalp, beard, mustache, and eyebrows. There is also itchiness and redness. Additionally, I have a very oily face. I have been experiencing dandruff on the scalp and eyebrows for the past one and a half years. The current medication includes homeopathy with Kali sulph6X (Kali sulphuricum) , but it has not shown any effect on the symptoms. Two years ago, I suffered a severe case of COVID-19, and this issue started after several months of recovery. Please provide me with suggestions.

Hi,

I am glad you chose icliniq for your medical-related queries.

I understand your concern

The condition which you are suffering from is seborrheic dermatitis which can be troublesome condition as there can be redness, itching and flaking in regions of body that have abundant sebaceous glands (mainly scalp, face, underarms, chest, groin). There is one normal yeast on our skin Malassezia which increases in concentration in this condition. This condition can be managed effectively but it keeps recurring therefore some form of maintaining regimen will be required after treatment but that is very minimal. To manage this, there are few general measures and few specific ones. General measures include:

  1. Avoid putting oil in scalp, over face or body (at least for acute time).
  2. Control your diet (avoid oily and fatty food).
  3. Wash you face twice daily with salicylic acid based face washes.
  4. When doing shampoo, do apply some foam to eye brows, beard and other places with dandruff.

Coming to specific measures:

  1. Use antifungal based shampoo alternate day for at least two weeks.
  2. If the itching is not bearable, you can take oral antihistamines.
  3. In case of moderate scaling and redness, you may need topical steroids.

Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further.

Thank you.
