How to find happiness and develop a stronger sense of self-worth?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

There is nothing in life for me to be happy about it. I always curse myself and get easily hurt when people mistreat me in behavior or any way they like.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I want to mention that it does not matter what others think about you but yourself. Sometimes, you do not have control over the situations and what others do, but how you cope with it matters.

Kindly screen yourself for clinical depression. Do a self-rating test of depression like Zung's self-rating depression scale, which you can easily find online, and if it is indicative of moderate to severe depression, consult a psychiatrist in person for detailed evaluation and treatment. Some simple steps that can be of help:

  1. Follow a flexible routine, exercise regularly and eat a balanced diet rich in antioxidants and omega fatty acids.
  2. Meditation daily for at least half an hour in the morning helps you relax and focus.
  3. Maintain a journal and log down your thoughts. Retrospect them, put them down to logic and try to change the faulty ones.

If the above methods do not help, you can take the help of a clinical psychologist. Remember, every problem has a solution. You need to try solving it; help is just a step away. Feel free to ask if you have any further queries.

Thank you.
