Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My mother is a 59-year-old female patient with a history of kidney problems since the age of 25, which has resulted in an increase in blood uric acid levels. My mother was also diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma near her wisdom teeth and had surgery for it two years ago, but two months later she showed decreased thyroid levels and started taking 50 mg of Thyroxine tablets every morning and was doing fine. However, she has recently experienced a rise in blood pressure ranging from 100 - 140 mm/hg. She also experiences painless cramps in her fingers and feet on a regular basis, as well as increased gassiness. Kindly give me your opinion on it.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understand your concern.

If the blood pressure levels are around 100/140 mm/hg, considering her age she might need borderline treatment. Make sure you monitor her blood pressure levels every day, if the levels go beyond 150/90 mm/hg , she will be requiring definite treatment. I would also like to know if her THS (thyroid stimulating hormone) levels are in control, as hypothyroidism may cause muscle cramps. However, I will recommend medications for both muscle cramps and gassiness, but keep a thirty-minute interval between the other medications and her thyroid tablets. For cramps - Evion LC (Vitamin E and Levocarnitine) - one tablet per day. For Gassiness - Nexpro 40 mg (Esomeprazole) - one tablet in the morning on an empty stomach.

I hope this has helped you. Thank you.
