I do not feel anything during sex. What could cause this?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am 18 years old, my weight is 101.4 lbs, and my height is 5 feet 2 inches. I also have menstrual problems, which I have had earlier too.

I have been married for three months and four days, but I do not feel any sensation during sex, and I have never experienced an orgasm. I feel nothing at all.

Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

First of all, it is important to reassure you that many young women experience a lack of sexual sensation or orgasm during the early months of marriage. This does not mean that there is something permanently wrong with you.

Female sexual response develops gradually and is influenced by many factors, including

  1. Physical health.

  2. Hormonal balance.

  3. Emotional comfort.

  4. Anxiety.

  5. Fear of pregnancy.

  6. Pain.

  7. Stress.

  8. Relationship bonding.

  9. Previous menstrual or health problems.

At your age and body weight, conditions such as hormonal imbalance, anemia, thyroid disorders, pelvic infections, or psychological factors like anxiety or fear can commonly reduce sexual desire and pleasure. What is needed at this stage is gentle medical evaluation, not self-blame.

I suggest you get the following investigations, such as:

  1. Pelvic ultrasound.

  2. Thyroid profile (T3 (triiodothyronine), T4 (thyroxine), TSH (thyroid-stimulating hormone)).

  3. Prolactin level.

  4. Blood sugar.

  5. Lipid profile.

  6. A basic urine test can help rule out physical causes.

If there is pain, vaginal dryness, or fear during intercourse, that alone can prevent orgasm.

Emotional safety, open communication with your partner, adequate foreplay, and addressing fear of pregnancy are very important. This condition is treatable, and with proper guidance, counseling if needed, and correction of any underlying medical issue, sexual feelings usually improve over time.

Please do not panic, take this step by step. Support and help are available.

I hope this helps.

Thank you.
