How do I manage my intimacy issues after marriage?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I recently got married, but I am unable to have intimacy despite wanting to. I feel I may have had sexual issues even before marriage. What should I do?

Kindly advise.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com

I am very sorry about your medical condition, and I am glad that you are paying attention to changes in your body system. But do not worry, I am here to take care of you.

I know it is not easy to bring up. What you are experiencing is actually more common than you might think, and there are several possible reasons why someone might struggle with intimacy even though they want it. So there are a number of reasons behind this, and they include:

  1. Physical or medical factors:

    • Hormonal imbalances.

    • Pain during sex.

    • Chronic illness.

    • Certain medications.

    • Past untreated sexual health issues.

  2. Psychological factors:

    • Anxiety.

    • Stress.

    • Fear of performance.

    • Body image concerns.

    • Past trauma.

  3. Relationship dynamics: Pressure to “perform” after marriage, lack of emotional comfort or communication with your partner, or adjusting to a new phase of life.

  4. Sexual orientation or identity factors: Sometimes, difficulties arise if attraction patterns are not fully aligned with expectations.

So I will advise you to do the hormone profile test, and reply to me.

Along with that, I suggest establishing the following:

  1. Open communication with your spouse: This will reduce pressure, which in turn makes intimacy easier.

  2. Sex therapy or counseling: This is very effective if anxiety, past experiences, or confidence issues are contributing.

I hope this helps answer your query. Reply to me if you have more concerns or questions by scheduling a direct appointment or follow-up via chat, phone, or video consultation.

Thanks for using icliniq, and have a nice day.
