Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I have shortness of breath and inflammation from my throat to my lungs. It feels like something is poking in my lungs.
Please help.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
Shortness of breath and a sensation like something is ‘poking’ in your lungs, combined with inflammation from your throat down to your lungs, could indicate a range of issues. Here are some possibilities to consider:
Respiratory infections like pneumonia or even severe pharyngitis could lead to inflammation from the throat to the lungs and cause pain or a poking sensation in the chest.
Asthma or allergic reactions can cause inflammation and a sense of tightness or irritation in the airways, leading to shortness of breath.
Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) or acid reflux can sometimes cause chest discomfort, a sensation of a foreign object in the throat or lungs, and inflammation if it reaches the upper airways.
Pleural issues such as inflammation of the tissue surrounding the lungs (pleuritis or pleurisy) can cause sharp or poking chest pains, especially when breathing deeply.
Pulmonary embolism, while rare, is a blood clot in the blood vessels of the lungs that can cause chest pain and shortness of breath and needs immediate medical attention.
It is essential to seek medical attention as soon as possible, especially if the shortness of breath worsens or if you experience additional symptoms like fever, wheezing, or chest pain.
A healthcare provider can evaluate you with a physical exam, and possibly imaging or blood tests, to determine the cause and appropriate treatment.
I hope this has helped you. Please feel free to reach out to me again in case of further queries.
Thank you.
