Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

What will be the result of the urine test if the test is done seven days after taking Levonorgestrel progesterone pill? The girl is now facing unusual bleeding. Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understand your concern.

If the girl is pregnant and the bleeding is due to miscarriage or failed pregnancy, then the test result will be positive as the body requires three to four weeks to clear the hormones. If bleeding due to irregular periods and then the pregnancy test should be negative. You have not mentioned the patient's period cycle irregularity and the date of her last menstrual period.

In early pregnancy, after a few days of missed periods, it is better to do the blood pregnancy test. Sometimes the pregnancy test cannot detect pregnancy in the early stage of pregnancy. The bleeding may also be due to side effects from the emergency pill, which will depend on the phase in which the pill was taken. If the patient has heavy bleeding, then take the patient to the hospital immediately.

I hope this helps.

Thank you.
