Common "Sids" queries answered by top doctors | iCliniq

Sids

SIDS stands for sudden infant death syndrome, in which an infant, with no underlying serious medical condition dies while sleeping. It predominantly occurs in babies before they turn one year. Out of the many causes for sudden infant death syndrome, sleeping habits of the baby like sleeping on the stomach or sleeping with an adult together in the bed, defects in the brain, infections of the respiratory tract, increased heat, and low birth weight are a few. Avoiding the risk factors along with breastfeeding and using pacifier help in reducing the chance of SIDS.
