Sigmoid sinus diverticulum is a vascular condition that occurs due to the presence of an opening in the sigmoid sinus creating a diverticulum (pouch). The cause of a sigmoid sinus diverticulum is a bony defect in the sinus plate. A common symptom of a sigmoid sinus diverticulum is hearing a rhythmic thumping or throbbing sound in one or both ears. Endovascular coiling of the diverticulum is usually the choice of treatment.
