Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
I have been diagnosed with sinus. I need to know whether this could be treated without surgery. If surgery is the option, what are the consequences, and will it come again in the future? My age is 37 years now. Also wanted to know any after-effects of the surgery.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern. I reviewed the CT (computed tomography) scan report (the attachments are removed to protect the patient's identity). I would ideally want to have a look at the CT scan films. If you have a soft copy of the CT scan, please upload it for my perusal. Next, did the doctor do a nasal endoscopy? If so, can you give me the report or pictures of the nasal endoscopy? If the duration is two months alone, what all medicines have you tried? Have the symptoms been consistent throughout the two months without any ups or downs? For example, have you tried nasal sprays and antiallergic medicines? If you want me to comment based on the CT report alone, there are certain issues like DNS (deviated nasal septum) and concha bullosa that cannot be cured without surgery. But these problems are found in a lot of people. The blocked ostiomeatal complexes and mucosal thickenings are subjective; if they are frank polyps, they will need surgical resection. We may try steroids and get rid of them if they are mild. Regarding recurrence, it depends on your atopic status. Some people are prone to allergies and recurrences of sinonasal symptoms. Do you smoke or drink? Any family history of allergy? Do you have diabetes or blood pressure? Please revert with all details so that we can help you. I hope you find it helpful. Thanks and regards.
