Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am 52 years old. I have a skin irritation on my right hand. Please check the attached photos.
Please help.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I have gone through your query and understand your concern (attachments removed to protect the patient’s identity).
Based on your symptoms, the possible causes can be
The first cause is environmental, which includes cold or dry weather, where low humidity removes the natural oils from your skin. Frequent hand washing, especially with hot water, can further irritate and dry the skin. Alcohol-based sanitizers can strip away protective oils.
The chemical exposures include harsh soaps or detergents, cleaning products (such as bleach, disinfectants, and dishwashing liquids), and industrial chemicals or solvents.
Skin conditions, such as hand eczema (irritant or allergic contact dermatitis), are the most common causes. Other causes are atopic dermatitis (often with itching and redness), psoriasis (thick, scaly patches, sometimes painful cracks), and fungal infections, which can cause scaling, itching, and peeling
Allergic causes include allergic contact dermatitis (an itchy skin rash), which can be triggered by substances such as latex gloves, fragrances, nickel, and preservatives in soaps or creams.
Medical or internal causes include diabetes (high blood sugar levels), thyroid disorders (hypothyroidism, characterized by abnormally low activity of the thyroid gland), vitamin deficiencies (A, D, E, and B complex), and dehydration.
Less common causes are autoimmune diseases, for example, lupus (chronic autoimmune disease) and certain medications (Retinoids and chemotherapy).
To manage the condition, you can take one 10 mg tablet of Cetirizine hydrochloride in the morning and one at night for five days. Additionally, take one capsule of Cholecalciferol 200,000 IU (international units) every 15 days for five months. Apply Nevage body milk on the skin morning and night for one month.
I hope I have answered your question.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
Thank you.
