What could be the causes of skin infection near the lips?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I had a small skin infection next to my lips, and its been three weeks its still there, and today I saw another thing on my cheek after shaving my beard. Can you see the picture and tell me what exactly is wrong next to my lips? Its not visible due to hair, but its kind of an infection. Could it be due to the color used on the beard?

Thanks.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern.

The probable cause can be pseudofolliculitis because of closed clipping or shaving, and the possibility of developing ingrown hair, and the use of hair colouring is probably aggravating it.

Application of a cream called Fucidin-H (1 % Hydrocortisone and Fusidic acid) or two separate creams that may be acquired OTC (over the counter) and mixed in the ratio of 1:1 and applied on the spots may help alleviate your issue within 48 to 72 hrs.

This application may be done twice daily over two to three days.

Do not continue the creams long-term, as they have undesirable results. When it resolves, do consult me again in three to five days, and I will offer a long-term solution to help prevent this issue going forward. Shaving techniques and hypoallergenic dye usage will need to be looked at.

In case of marginal response or aggravation, visit a dermatologist or hospital in person.

I hope this information will help you.

Thanks,
