Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am a bit worried about my 18-year-old son. Lately, it seems like he is glued to his video games, especially now during the vacation break. He is always holed up in the basement, and we hardly see him except when he pops up for food. It is like he is not even attached to us anymore. I am concerned that he might have a video game addiction. Can you shed some light on this? What should we watch out for? And most importantly, what can we do to help him?
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I can understand your problem and situation.
I will try to give in brief about your son's problem. While enjoying video games is common, excessive gaming can be a sign of addiction. Look out for signs like neglecting responsibilities, withdrawal from social activities, and mood changes when gaming is restricted. Encourage open communication with your son about his gaming habits and express your concerns in a non-confrontational way. Setting limits on screen time and encouraging alternative activities can help him find balance.
You must take him to the nearest psychiatrist for further detailed evaluation and management.
I hope that you get your answer.
Please let me know if you need some help.
Thank you.
