Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
My 68-year-old husband has progressive multiple sclerosis and is rapidly losing mobility in his lower limbs. His neurologist has told us that there is little more conventional medicine can offer. However, we have come across a clinic that offers "autologous stem cell therapy." They claim it can regenerate myelin and slow the progression of the disease. The treatment is costly and involves harvesting his own stem cells, which are then reinjected after some sort of "activation" process. The testimonials seem promising, but it is not covered by insurance and would drain our retirement savings.
Is there legitimate scientific evidence supporting the effectiveness of stem cell treatments for MS? How can we determine if this clinic is reputable? We are desperate for hope but terrified of being scammed or risking his health with unproven treatments.
Please help.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your query and understood your concern.
Honestly speaking, stem cell therapy for MS (multiple sclerosis) is still in its early stages. It is more like a trial-and-error process. If it works, it works. But you also need to be prepared for the possibility of failure. It is not 100 % effective, so it is important to think carefully before making such an investment.
I hope this helps.
Kindly follow up if you have more doubts.
Thank you.
