Patient's Query

Hello doctor.

I am 27 years old and have combination skin. Can you advise me on the best sunscreen for my skin? I am not sure if I should use moisturizer before sunscreen or the other way around. What other variables should I consider while selecting sunscreen? There are so many alternatives available, and I want to be sure I am selecting the best one for my skin type.

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

Moisturizer should be applied first, followed by sunscreen as the final step on a regular basis. Sunscreen should always be used as the final step of a skincare program. When it comes to sunscreens, keep the following considerations in mind. Because you have combination skin, a silicone gel-based sunscreen is great because it is non-greasy, does not leave a white tinge, and has a smooth touch on the skin without being too heavy. Sunscreens should have an SPF of 50 or more for additional and long-term protection.

Always use sunscreen between 9am and 5pm, when UV radiation is at its peak. Reapply sunscreen every 2 hours on previously applied layers, as all sunscreens lose potency after 2 hours. Always apply sunscreen at least 20 minutes before going out because the activation time is 20 minutes. If you are at home, use sunscreen as the final step in your skincare routine. Wearing sunscreen at home is also recommended because UV radiation can pass through windows, and there are less penetrative UV-C radiations on phone displays, laptop screens, computers, and so on. Taking into account all of the aforementioned considerations while selecting the finest sunscreen.
