How can my workout related tenosynovitis be effectively managed?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I experience pain in my wrist when it is flexed, and my fingers are abducted. It began after a forearm workout, and it has not resolved even after a week.

Kindly help.

Hello,

Thanks for trusting us with your health care.

I can understand your concern.

This could be due to overstretching and lifting very heavy weights. I suggest you to take the following medications:

  1. Take one tablet of Ibuprofen 400 mg after food, twice daily for ten days.
  2. Take one tablet of Rabeprazole 20 mg before food, twice daily for ten days.
  3. Take one tablet of Shelcal (calcium) 500 mg before food, twice daily for one month.
  4. Take one tablet of Vitamin D (60 K units) once daily for ten days, then once a month for eleven months.

Please take these tablets only if you are not allergic to them. Do not take these tablets if you have bronchial asthma. Additionally, apply ice packs to the affected area twice daily. Kindly consult your specialist doctor, discuss with them, and take the medicines with their consent.

Hope I have clarified your query.

Thank you.

Probable diagnosis

The probable diagnosis is wrist synovitis or tenosynovitis.

Preventive measures

Preventive measures include refraining from going to the gym for a week and wearing a wrist brace.

Regarding follow up

Please schedule a follow-up after five days to ensure complete treatment.
