Are there any side effects of Tezepelumab for asthma?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have had asthma for years, but lately, my inhalers do not seem to be doing enough. I am still having flare-ups, and I feel like I can not get my breathing under control. I heard about Tezspire as a new option for people with tough-to-treat asthma. How does it work? Would I still need my other asthma meds? Are there any big risks or side effects I should know about?

Kindly suggest.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern.

Tezspire (Tezepelumab) is a monoclonal antibody (a type of protein) and also a thymic stromal lymphopoietin (TSLP) blocker. TSLP causes airway irritation and swelling (inflammation). By blocking TSLP, Tezspire helps to decrease airway irritation and swelling, therefore helping to decrease asthma symptoms.

Tezpire is currently approved for the treatment of severe asthma in various other countries.

Although Tezspire begins working shortly after your first dose, it is likely to take several weeks or even months before you notice your symptoms begin to ease. However, some people receiving Tezspire in studies saw a reduction in their asthma symptoms as early as two weeks after the first dose.

Common side effects include upset stomach, dry mouth, and drowsiness.

The probable causes: Asthma.

Treatment plan: Tezspire.

I hope this helps.

Kindly follow up if you have more concerns.

Thank you.
