Could the changes in muscle recovery be due to Teszpire?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have been on Tezspire for my eosinophilic asthma for three months, and while my breathing has improved, I feel like my endurance at the gym has taken a hit. Could Tezspire be affecting my muscle recovery or oxygen levels during workouts? I also take creatine and protein supplements. Are there any known interactions between these and Tezspire? Lastly, I sometimes experience mild muscle cramps after my injections. Could this be related, and would increasing my electrolyte intake help?

Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

Tezspire (Tezepelumab) primarily targets airway inflammation rather than muscle function, but some indirect effects could be influencing your endurance.

  1. Tezspire and exercise endurance - Reduced eosinophilic inflammation could slightly change oxygen utilization in muscles, though this is not well-documented. If your asthma symptoms are better controlled but you still feel fatigued, other factors like hydration, electrolyte balance, or workout intensity may play a role. Consider checking iron and vitamin D levels, as deficiencies can impact endurance.

  2. Tezspire and muscle recovery - There are no known interactions between Tezspire and creatine or protein supplements, so you can continue taking them. Some people report fatigue or mild muscle pain as a side effect of biologics, which may contribute to slower recovery.

  3. Muscle cramps and electrolytes: Mild muscle cramps could be linked to changes in hydration, electrolyte levels, or slight immune system shifts from Tezspire. Try increasing magnesium- and potassium-rich foods (bananas, spinach, avocados), electrolyte supplements (if sweating a lot during workouts), and hydration with sodium balance (too much water without enough sodium can trigger cramps).

I hope this answers your query.

Let me know if I can assist you further.

Thank you.
