How effective is Tezepelumab for severe asthma?
Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
My pulmonologist is recommending Tezspire for my severe asthma, but I am unsure if it is worth it. I have tried biologics before without much improvement. My questions are:
How does Tezspire differ from others like Nucala or Dupixent? Is it more effective?
Should I take it long-term or just for a short period?
Also, is it a self-injection, or do I need to go to a clinic?
Can I continue using my inhalers, or must I stop them?
Please help.
Thank you in advance.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your query and can understand your concern.
Tezspire (Tezepelumab) is a newer biologic for severe asthma (a chronic inflammatory disease of the airways that causes difficulty in breathing) that works differently from Nucala (Mepolizumab) and Dupixent (Dupilumab). It targets thymic stromal lymphopoietin (TSLP), a key driver of airway inflammation, whereas Nucala focuses on IL-5 and Dupixent on IL-4/IL-13. Clinical studies show Tezspire effectively reduces asthma exacerbations and improves lung function, even in patients who have not responded well to other biologics.
The duration of treatment varies depending on your response and your doctor's recommendations. Tezspire is typically administered as an injection once a month in a clinical setting, though your doctor may discuss the possibility of at-home administration.
You can continue using your inhalers alongside Tezspire unless your doctor advises otherwise. It is not a replacement for inhalers but rather an add-on therapy to help control severe asthma. Since Tezspire works differently from other biologics, it may be a good option if previous treatments have not been effective. Kindly consult your doctor and take medicines accordingly.
I hope this helps.
Kindly revert so I can assist you further.
Thank you.
