Is Tezspire effective for chronic bronchitis and severe asthma?

Hi, Doctor,

My dad is 63 years old. He is a lifelong smoker diagnosed with chronic bronchitis and severe asthma. He has been on inhaled steroids, nebulizers, and even oral steroids during flare-ups, but nothing keeps him stable. He has had two ER visits in the last three months because of breathing attacks. Someone mentioned Tezspire at our last visit, but we were not sure if he was a candidate. We were willing to try anything that could give him some breathing room again.

  1. Is this for people with COPD, too, or only for eosinophilic asthma?
  2. Can it help reduce flare-ups and hospital visits?
  3. Is there a risk with his heart meds or his age?
  4. What kind of testing does he need before starting it?

Tezspire is a newer biologic used for eosinophilic asthma. So, first get done with IgE level and eosinophil count. If all these are raised, then only Tezspire will work. If she is having high IgE and eosinophil counts, then Tezspire will definitely work despite COPD. It blocks the inflammatory chain reaction caused by chemokines and cytokines. The usual dose is one injection every month. The effect starts after two to three months.
