Is Tezspire effective for eosinophilic asthma?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello Doctor,

I have allergic asthma that has worsened over the past couple of years. I have been hospitalized twice in the past year, and my inhalers do not seem to be effective anymore.

My allergist mentioned Tezspire (Tezepelumab) as a newer option. I am trying to understand how it works and whether it is something I would need to take long-term.

Will it help prevent flare-ups, or is it mainly for symptom control? I am also concerned about potential side effects. Are there specific tests I need to undergo before starting it?

I am just really tired of constantly feeling like I am on the edge of another asthma attack.

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have read your query and can understand your concern.

Tezepelumab injection is a newer biologic used for treating eosinophilic asthma. It is considered safe for long-term use.

Tezspire works by blocking the inflammatory chain reaction caused by chemokines and cytokines, which are key contributors to asthma symptoms and flare-ups.

Before starting this medication, I suggest you check

IgE (Immunoglobulin E) levels.

Eosinophil count.

If both of these are elevated, Tezspire is likely to be effective.

The usual dose is one injection every four weeks.

I hope this helps.

Thank you.
