What is the use of Tezspire in asthma-COPD overlap?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have had severe asthma most of my life (now 58), and recently it has started overlapping with COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease). I am using multiple inhalers daily, and even then, I wake up with chest tightness and wheezing. Someone suggested Tezspire as a new treatment. I am tired of all the flare-ups and ER visits—this last one had me on steroids again for 10 days. never-ending cycle. want to know if Tezspire can make a difference. Breathing’s become a daily battle, and I am worried about my lungs giving out.

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

Tezspire (tezepelumab, a biological drug for asthma) is a newer biologic treatment for severe asthma that works by reducing airway inflammation. It can help reduce asthma attacks, improve lung function, and decrease reliance on steroids. Even with asthma-COPD overlap (ACOS), it may still be beneficial, but you should discuss with your doctor if it is appropriate for your specific case. While it has mild side effects, like potential allergic reactions or respiratory infections, it could help reduce flare-ups and emergency visits, making a significant difference in managing your symptoms. It is worth asking your pulmonologist if Tezspire is right for you.

I hope this information helps you.

Feel free to ask further queries.

Thank you.
