Does weight training cause nerve issues in the hand?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

For the last couple of years, I have had some tingling in my two little fingers and my elbow. I also have upper arm tenderness. I started weight training and used to do a lot of triceps. That is what started it. I have had an MRI of my neck and spine, and it was clear.

The pain is not bad. However, I can often feel the tingling, and if I gently rub inside my upper arm, it sets off the tingling. I had a nerve conduction study, and the woman in charge was not very good at communication and, frankly, had no time. She said there was a slight entrapment (I thought it was either trapped or not trapped). There was not any obvious popping when I flexed my elbow.

What would you think and suggest needs to be done?

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understand your concerns.

Please attach the nerve conduction study report so it can be interpreted and required assistance can be provided.

This is because the symptoms suggest pressure throughout the nerve, and it may be in the form of overgrowth of some muscles or tendons in addition to the narrowing of bone tunnels.

Thank you.
