What is a left maxillary sinus collection?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My three-year-old daughter fell and vomited. About an hour later, we went to the hospital, and the doctor recommended a CT (computed tomography) scan. The scan showed a left maxillary sinus collection, but everything else appeared normal. The doctor mentioned this was normal, but I would like to understand what a left maxillary sinus collection is.

Please guide.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thank you for posting your query.

I am very sorry to hear about your medical condition, and I am glad you are paying attention to changes in your body. Please do not worry, I am here to take care of you.

Regarding your question, a left maxillary sinus collection is an accumulation of fluid or blood in the upper bone of the mouth, which can occur due to an injury, such as the fall your daughter experienced. I would advise taking her to the ER (emergency room) for further evaluation. A possible procedure, like ultrasound-guided aspiration, may be needed to remove the fluid.

I hope this helps. Feel free to reach out if you have more concerns or questions. You can schedule a direct appointment, or follow up via chat, phone, or video consultation.

Please let me know if you want some help.

Thank you.
