What could be a white residue at a tooth extraction site?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I went to a dentist five days back and she said I do not have an infection after I had a tooth extraction nine days back. But I see pus or white stuff forming inside the tooth extraction site. My gums are still swollen. I am taking Amoxicillin and an oral wash prescribed to me. I do not have any pain. What does this white stuff mean and why do I have this white stuff forming at the tooth extraction site?

Please suggest.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understand your concern.

The white area you have noticed is the normal healing tissue that forms in the extraction site. This is soon going to change its color. It takes almost three weeks for the site to heal completely. If the white patch remains even after two to three weeks, you can follow up with a picture of that area or visit your nearest dentist. In the meantime continue with the oral wash.

I hope this helps you.

Thank you.
