Is it possible to correct elevated TSH levels through diet and lifestyle changes?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My T3 and T4 levels are within normal range. However, there is an elevation in my TSH level. At what TSH level should we immediately consult an endocrinologist, and at what level is it reversible through diet?

Please help me.

Thanks.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern.

TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone) function is determined in values. The higher the TSH value, the lower the function of the thyroid gland. The lower the TSH value, the higher the function of the thyroid gland. Up to 5 mlIU/L is the normal upper range, and 0.3 mlIU/L is the normal lower range. Up to a value of 7 mlIU/L, a person can control and correct the thyroid condition and reverse it through diet, physical activity, and selenium. Above 7 mlIU/L is a concern and may need medications if present with symptoms like loss of appetite, weight loss, sleep issues, anxiety issues, palpitations, giddiness, and tiredness. A TSH value of 20 mlIU/L needs medicines along with supportive therapy.

I hope this information helps you.

Feel free to ask further queries.

Thank you.
