Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I have been experiencing a dry cough for the past three weeks, which occurs only at night. In the morning, my condition improves. Aside from this, I am in good health. Should I be concerned about the possibility of tuberculosis?
Kindly help.
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your query and can understand your concern.
I want to reassure you that there is no need for concern regarding tuberculosis (TB), as it cannot be diagnosed based solely on a few signs. Furthermore, if you do have TB, it is now easily treatable.
If you are experiencing night sweats, a mild fever, and a cough at night, I recommend undergoing specific tests. I have noted that your BMI (body mass index) is on the lower side, and your weight appears to be slightly reduced, although your height is quite good.
Please consider getting the following tests done:
1. ESR (erythrocyte sedimentation rate).
2. Chest X-ray.
3. Sputum for AFB (Acid-Fast Bacillus).
If the results of the other tests are inconclusive, a special rapid test known as GeneXpert can also be done. It is also advisable to undergo these tests if you have been in contact with individuals diagnosed with TB.
I hope this information helps you.
Thank you.
