What is the treatment of stomach pain after taking an I-pill?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My girlfriend and I had unprotected sex a few days back. Her period was due, and she took an I-pill. Now, her stomach was hurting, and she was bleeding a little. What should we do?

Thanks.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

Withdrawal bleeding is only a side effect of I-pill (Levonorgestrel). It happens due to the sudden withdrawal of hormones from your body. So, it does not necessarily happen to everyone. You may have menstrual irregularities in your case, which could be due to hormonal imbalance caused by I-pill. That is why it is a little unpredictable when you receive your next period, and maybe you will get it on time or delayed by seven to 10 days. As you took the pill on time (within 24 hours), there is almost no chance of pregnancy in your case.

I hope this information will help you.

Thanks.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thanks for the reply.

Also, we had unprotected sex, and then she took I-pill. Is it safe? Are there any side effects?

Thanks.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

Yes, two times I-pill (Levonorgestrel) may cause hormonal imbalance and menstrual irregularities. It will not cause pregnancy.

I hope this information will help you.

Thanks.
