Can one get chlamydia through oral sex?
Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
Is it possible for a chlamydia infection in the throat to move to the genitals? I had oral sex a few weeks ago and now I have a slight irritation in my urethra with no discharge. I went to the doctor and they have ruled out gonorrhea. I am waiting for the results to see what it might be. They said it could be urethritis. I just want to know if it could be chlamydia in my throat that traveled down to my genitals.
Thanks.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
Chlamydia moving from the throat to the genitalia is hardly possible. This can be some non-specific urethritis. I would want you to undergo a urine routine examination and see for bacteria and pus cells. Also, look for a urine culture if not done. Since you have only given oral sex I doubt if this thing is sexually transmitted. In addition, there is no discharge. Tablet Azithromycin is a good antibiotic as a single dose to reduce infection by most of the usual bugs causing STI (sexually transmitted infection). I think as of now you should drink plenty of fluids and wait for the reports.
Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
Thanks for the reply.
Is that also true if I have swallowed a little semen?
Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
