Patient's Query

Hello,

I am a young and healthy teenage girl, but I suffer from many severe UTIs (urinary tract infections). I get an average of about eight infections annually over the past four years. I follow all of the conventional methods of hygiene, including vitamin C intake, using cotton underwear, etc. I drink about a gallon of water daily and exercise. This problem has spread to my kidneys the initial time and has never escalated to that state. I developed allergies to all antibiotics, so I am unsure how to treat them at this point. Also, I constantly have cloudy urine and lower back pain. My doctor has compared the cultures and claimed that they have not been the same bacteria, so I believe that rules out a reoccurring UTI. Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern.

Recurrent UTI needs further evaluation and long-term antibiotic prophylaxis. An MCUG (micturating cystogram) X-ray rules out reflux into the kidneys, and a DMSA (dimercaptosuccinic acid) scan detects kidney scars. I hope these have been already done. Avoid constipation and wiping your privates from down to up. It should be always from top to bottom and thrown away. I also suggest you add cranberry extract and D-Mannose supplements. See if you can tolerate Trimethoprim, Bactrim, or Nitrofurantoin. Avoid vaginal douching.

I hope this helps you.

Warm regards.
