Why my vaginal opening has become smaller?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am a 35-year-old unmarried woman. I have a problem with my vagina. My vagina suddenly changes. I think there is a major problem. My vaginal hole is becoming too small. I cannot share my problem with anyone. Everyone forces me to get married. Please help.

Thanks.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern.

If you feel the vaginal opening has suddenly become smaller, that is not something that usually happens without a cause. It could be just local tightening of muscles (pelvic floor spasm from anxiety) or sometimes scarring or adhesions from chronic infection, inflammation, or even skin conditions. Rarely, hormonal thinning of tissues (as seen in low estrogen states) can also cause the opening to feel tight or narrow.

The probable causes include:

  1. Vaginal or vulval scarring from old infection or trauma.
  2. Lichen sclerosus or a similar skin condition.
  3. Vaginismus (muscle tightening from stress).
  4. Low estrogen changes if cycles are irregular.

I hope this information is helpful to you.

Thanks.
