Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I bumped my leg today at work. I did not bump hard but I bumped on my already present varicose vein. There is very bad bruising and swelling in the leg area. It hurts when I put pressure on it or when I stand up.

Thank you.

HI,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern.

I have gone through the image you have attached (attachment removed to protect the patient’s identity)

This is mostly due to the rupture of varicose veins and cutaneous bleeding within the skin layers. I would suggest you take painkillers and anti-inflammatory drugs like Paracetamol or Ibuprofen twice daily after some food. I would also suggest you apply Betadine cream to the affected area. You can also apply ice packs to the affected area.

Consult your doctor, talk to them, and then take the medications as per their advice.

Kindly answer the following questions so that I can guide you better.

  1. Is it itching?

  2. Are you taking any blood thinning medications?

  3. Is it increasing in size?

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

How many days before did this accident happen? Did you start taking the medications I suggested before?

I would suggest you take Levocetirizine for itching. Consult your doctor, talk to them, and then take the medications.

Kindly answer the questions above.

Thank you.
